Oribe ware from Japan is a traditional Japanese pottery finish known for its distinct and vibrant green glaze. Dating back to the late 16th and early 17th centuries, it is named after the tea master Furuta Oribe. It is one of the most well-known types of Mino ware, originating from the Mino region in Gifu Prefecture.
Oribe ware is recognized for its bright green glaze, often combined with darker patterns and motifs and glossy finish. The designs are usually asymmetrical, featuring natural and abstract patterns that embody the wabi-sabi aesthetic of finding beauty in imperfection and simplicity.
Primarily used to serve soy sauce, these dishes are an essential part of Japanese table settings, especially for meals that include sushi, sashimi or tempura. The dish allows for easy dipping and adds an elegant touch to the table.
Microwave and dishwasher safe (not oven safe), sudden changes in temperature could cause thermal shock and damage your dish.
