Described as "uber-fragrant" yuzu fruits are a natural cross between a mandarin orange and a wild lemon called Ichang. More zesty than a lemon or a lime the complex flavour is unique and described as a blend of grapefruit, lemon and mandarin. Yuzu is prized for its delicate aroma which is more floral than other citrus fruits and often compared to orange blossom.Famously versatile it will pair with fish, white meat and is a sure fire hit in any dessert recipe that calls for zest. The skin holds the most flavour and aroma, grate just a tiny amount into dressings, sauces, butters or creams. The juice is refreshingly tart and can be squeezed into cocktails in place of lemon or lime, used in any vegetable, fish or meat marinade. The inside of the fruit holds many pips. Save these seeds and plant them as yuzu trees will grow in a sheltered spot in the UK and boast glossy leaves and fragrant blossoms. The fresh yuzu season is short, we only expect to have availabiltiy untilt the end of December but yuzu does freeze well so take advantage while the season lasts. With three times the vitamin C of lemons and packed with anti-oxidants this fruit is a guilt free pleasure.
Store in the fridge for up to two weeks.
