Pestle & Mortar

A pestle (Surikogi) and mortar (Suribachi) is an essential piece of kit for every student and master of Japanese cuisine. The grooved interior of the mortar provides the ideal grinding surface for sesame seeds, peppercorns, nuts and spices. The attractive nature of the earthenware mortar means pastes and sauces can be created in the bowl and taken directly to table. The magnolia wood pestle is durable and smooth with a design that makes it very comfortable to use.

A silicon base prevents the mortar slipping while in use. Clean with warm water and a small amount of detergent, avoid rubbing with a metal scourer. Do not soak pestle for long periods in water.

Available in:

Small Mortar (155 x 145 x 85mm) with 24cm Pestle

Large Mortar (185 x 180 x 100mm) with 30cm Pestle

Also available in black

A revelation!!

I’ve used a lot of pestles and mortars but have been very pleasantly surprised at how easy this is to use and how efficient it is!

Thank you for letting us know Brian - agreed, they are super efficient: the ridges on the inside really help get the best grinding of anything you put in them :)

Wonderful Suribachi

Beautiful Suribachi in white. Really well packed and prompt delivery. I used to have a basic small one for grinding sesame seeds but this one not only looks great but is also large enough to act as a serving dish for the salad.

Thanks for letting us now, great to dual purpose it as a serving dish, they are beautifully made so a ideal way to get the most out of it :)
