The Japanese Persimmon, or Kaki, is a deciduous tree prized for its glossy green leaves, stunning autumn colour and sweet, honey-flavoured fruits. In summer, small, delicate flowers appear, eventually developing into bright orange fruits that ripen from autumn into early winter. The fruit is delicious eaten fresh, dried or used in jams, puddings, and baked goods.

Perfect for UK gardens, Kaki trees provide year-round interest with their shiny summer foliage, vibrant autumn leaves and eye-catching winter fruit.

To ensure the best crop, we also offer a group of three trees, ideal for cross-pollination and improved fruit yield. Whether planted individually or as a small orchard, Kaki trees are a rewarding choice for gardeners seeking both beauty and edible harvests.

While persimmon trees can produce fruit on their own, planting them in a small group can improve pollination and often results in a more reliable and abundant harvest so we also offer a group of 3 plants.

Note: Our young Persimmon trees are currently small starter plants, but with the right care and growing conditions they will establish quickly and grow into healthy, productive trees over time.

Growing Information

  • Location: Plant in a sunny, sheltered spot to protect fruit from wind and encourage good ripening. South-facing walls or courtyards are ideal.
  • Soil: Well-drained soil; tolerates a range of types including clay, loam, and sandy soils.
  • Watering: Water regularly while establishing. Mature trees are reasonably drought-tolerant but benefit from watering in dry spells.
  • Hardiness: Hardy to around -10 °C once established.
  • Pollination & Fruiting: Partially self-fertile; planting multiple trees (or a group of three) improves fruit set and quality.
  • Growth Rate: Moderate; typically grows 30–60 cm per year under good conditions.
  • Mature Size: 4–8 m tall, 3–6 m wide, forming a rounded canopy.
  • Maintenance: Prune lightly after fruiting to maintain shape, airflow, and fruit production. Fertilise in early spring for healthy growth and abundant fruit.

A Japanese Persimmon tree is a beautiful and productive addition to any UK garden, offering year-round interest and a delicious, home-grown harvest.

Available as a single plant or group of three in a 7cm pot - the plants are currently 30cm tall including the pot.
