Tea ceremonies are a big part of Japanese tea culture. Try your own Japanese tea ceremony at home with our tea equipment here and our huge range of types of Japanese tea.

Enjoy Genmaicha, a flavourful blend of sencha and toasted brown rice traditionally drunk by the workers on the tea plantations; Gyokuro and Houjicha are other green teas with full bodied flavour and of course the traditional Japanese tea, matcha. Japanese green teas are made using tea leaves from a tea plant. The key difference between this and black tea is that the natural oxidation process is halted by heating the leaves at harvest so the leaves stay green. When brewed correctly this means it's free of bitterness, or use powdered green tea to ensure a perfect cup every time.

Japanese herbal tea and green teas also have strong links to health benefits. All green teas contain Catechin (or Tannin), a bioflavonoid that has both anti-viral and antioxidant effects. Catechin and the vitamin C found in green tea can contribute to lower cholesterol by clearing veins and arteries and has been shown to be an effective prevention against influenza.
