This beautifully packed assortment includes 4 traditional green teas from Japan. The set includes two bags of each flavour, and each bag is individually sealed for maximum freshness. 

Steep the tea in water at 80-85C; after two minutes, remove the bag, or pour the water from the pot.  The bag can then be used again: several small pots of tea can be made from each bag.

The four flavours are: Hachiju Hachiya, premium sencha green tea; Goma Houji, a sesame toasted tea; Wakoucha, a superior Japanese black tea; and Matcha Genmaicha, a genmaicha tea mixed with matcha and puffed rice grains.

Each tea in this selection provides a unique taste and aroma, showcasing the rich tradition and craftsmanship of Japanese tea-making.

Hachiju Hachiya

Hachiju Hachiya translates to "88th night," referring to the 88th day after the beginning of spring in the Japanese calendar. This period is significant for tea harvesting as it is believed to be the optimal time for picking the freshest, most flavourful leaves.

It is a high-quality Sencha, known for its vibrant green colour and refined flavour.

Drinking Hachiju Hachiya tea is a way to celebrate the arrival of spring and enjoy the first fresh flavours of the tea harvest.

Goma Houji

Goma Houji combines the traditional Japanese roasted green tea, Houjicha, with the nutty flavour of roasted sesame seeds (Goma).

The green tea is roasted at high temperatures, imparting a distinctive toasty aroma and a warm, earthy flavour with a subtle sweetness, which is complemented by the nutty richness of roasted sesame.

Goma Houji is often enjoyed for its comforting and warming qualities, making it a popular choice for relaxation.

Matcha Genmaicha

Matcha Genmaicha is a blend of Genmaicha (green tea with roasted brown rice) and Matcha (powdered green tea), creating a vibrant and flavourful tea, combining the nutty, toasty elements of Genmaicha with the rich, grassy flavour of Matcha.

The roasted rice provides a nutty, toasty flavour, while the Matcha adds a rich, umami taste and a bright green colour.

Matcha contributes a higher level of caffeine compared to regular Genmaicha, offering a more robust energy boost.

Wakoucha (Japanese Black Tea)

Wakoucha refers to a black tea produced in Japan, which is less common than green tea varieties.

Made from the same Camellia sinensis leaves as green tea, it is fully oxidized and unlike stronger, astringent black teas from other regions, Wakoucha has a mild, sweet flavour with notes of honey and fruit.

It typically has a smooth, mellow finish without the bitterness often associated with black teas.
