Frequently asked questions

Sake is brewed from fermented rice. It is mild, often floral, and lower in alcohol. Shochu is a distilled spirit made from sweet potato, barley or rice, and sits closer to a light whisky than a wine. Both are popular Japanese alcoholic drinks but suit different moods and food pairings.

Umeshu is a Japanese plum liqueur made by steeping ume plums in shochu and sugar. It has a sweet-tart flavour with a deep amber colour and a rich finish. Serve over ice or with soda. We stock a dedicated range alongside our sake selection.

Yes. Our non-alcoholic range includes sparkling yuzu drinks, botanical syrups, Japanese soft drinks and a full selection of Japanese teas – sencha, hojicha, matcha and more. Browse the soft drinks and tea subcategories for the complete range.

Light, aromatic styles like ginjo and daiginjo are best served well chilled. Fuller junmai sake suits gentle warming in a carafe. Temperature changes the flavour more than with most drinks, so it's worth experimenting. Our sake cups and carafes make it easy to serve it properly.

Whether you’re looking for authentic flavours, or out-of-the-box creations, our collection of Japanese drinks are inspired and derived from distinctive Japanese ingredients, such as yuzu, shiso, sakura Blossom and wasabi.

From traditional Japanese soft drinks and syrups, to our very own Wasabi Label craft spirits, expect a taste of Japan with every sip.
