Persimmon rice crackers, known in Japan as Kaki no Tane, are one of the nation’s favourite savoury snacks. Made from glutinous rice, the crackers are shaped like the tiny crescent seeds of the persimmon fruit. They’re baked until light and crunchy, then seasoned with soy sauce and gentle spices to give a savoury flavour with just a hint of tanginess.
This classic mix pairs the crisp rice crackers with roasted peanuts, creating a moreish balance of crunch, saltiness and nutty richness.
In Japan, Kaki no Tane isn’t just a snack, it’s part of everyday life. The crackers are enjoyed with a cup of tea, shared with guests or served with a cold beer as one of the country’s most popular bar snacks.
These crackers are made by Minoya Arare, a long-established family-run producer based in Niigata, the heart of Japan’s rice-growing region. Minoya are known for using high-quality glutinous rice and traditional methods, crafting authentic Japanese snacks that have been loved for generations.
