Frequently asked questions

Most of our compact varieties suit patios and small plots. Shiso, myoga ginger, wasabi and edamame all sit happily in pots on a shaded corner or balcony. Sansho and Szechuan pepper trees can be kept container-grown for years if pruned annually.

Late spring, after the last frost, is safest. Citrus roots dislike cold, wet soil, so wait until night temperatures stay reliably above 5°C. Choose a sunny, sheltered position and protect the tree from strong wind for its first full season outside.

Yes, shiso, myoga and young citrus trees do well on a bright kitchen windowsill. Wasabi prefers cool bathrooms or shaded utility rooms where humidity stays high. Rotate pots weekly so growth stays even and leaves don't lean towards the light.

Medlar (loquat) and date plum persimmon typically fruit from years three to five. Yuzu and Meyer lemon can produce within their first two seasons if grown in a sheltered, sunny spot with regular feeding and a light annual prune.

Wasabi flowers feed early spring bees before much else is in bloom. Sansho, Szechuan pepper, yuzu and Meyer lemon all produce nectar-rich blossom. Shiso flowers late in the season and draws hoverflies and small bees looking for autumn forage.

We have a wide variety of citrus trees – including oranges like mikan, yuzu, lemons, finger limes (white, pink and red) and peppers. Looking for the perfect mikan tree? Discover our range of citrus plants today!
