Exotic Plants To Spice Up Your Garden

If you’ve already got to grips with growing Wasabi at home, and perhaps you’ve conquered a citrus tree as well, why not try something a little different? Our Myoga ginger, Szechuan and Sansho plants are back in stock NOW – they are ideal for a kitchen garden or anyone who wants to add something exotic to their garden.

Myoga Ginger Plants

Myoga ginger is the perfect plant for all sushi lovers – it’s plump buds are the ginger you might see very finely sliced as a garnish, especially with sashimi. With a beautifully mild ginger flavour, the buds can be harvested from mid-late summer and used in any manner of ways. Plants will thrive in partial sun with well-draining soil and can grow up to around a metre.

Sansho Pepper Trees

If you’re trying to grow a Japanese kitchen garden, look no further than the Sansho tree. The young leaves, Kinome, are used in Japanese cuisine to great effect just as much as the berries that come later. Red sansho can be harvested in the summer when fully ripe, they have a citrusy spice and can be dried and used like peppercorns for a lemon-pepper hit.

Szechuan Pepper Trees

Similar to the Sansho tree, Szechuan trees will also produce vibrant red fruits. When these red cases open to reveal black peppercorns inside, they are ready to be harvested and enjoyed in a myriad of ways with punchy peppery flavour and a lingering tingle on the tongue. Trees can grow up to 3m in 10 years, but can also make excellent bonsai trees.

Shiso Plants
