A stunning donabe pot made of Yokkaichi Banko Ware with a crackle glaze pattern. Banko Ware is prized for its ability to retain heat evenly, making it ideal for slow cooking, simmering, and stewing. The pot is versatile and can be used on a gas stove, in a microwave or in an oven, withstanding temperatures up to 250°C.
- Diameter: 19cm (22cm with handles)
- Height: 6cm (9cm with the lid)
Care Instructions:
We recommend seasoning the pot before use.
Wash by hand with mild detergent and avoid sudden temperature changes such as placing a hot pot directly into cold water to prevent thermal shock.
How to season
This treatment seals the porous clay, strengthens the pot, and prevents cracking during use:
Materials Needed:
- Plain white rice (1/4 cup)
- Water (enough to fill the pot about two-thirds)
- A wooden spoon or spatula
Step-by-Step Instructions:
1. Rinse the Pot:
Wash the Donabe pot gently with water and a soft sponge to remove any dust or residues from manufacturing. Do not use soap.
2. Prepare the Rice Starch Solution:
Place the rice and water into the pot.
Bring the water to a gentle boil over medium-low heat.
3. Simmer the Starch:
Let the rice and water simmer gently for about 20–30 minutes.
Stir occasionally with a wooden spoon to release starch from the rice, creating a milky solution.
4. Cool Down:
Turn off the heat and allow the pot to cool completely with the rice water inside. This step lets the starch absorb into the porous surface of the clay.
5.Rinse and Dry:
Discard the rice water and thoroughly rinse the pot with clean water.
Let it air dry completely before storing or using.
