Winner of the IWC Gold Medal & Kura Master Prix du Jury 2020, Genroku Redux is rich, bold and intriguing.

With over 460 years of brewing history, Konishi Shuzo is one of Japan’s oldest sake producers. Drawing from centuries-old brewing records, the brewery has revived an authentic 1703 recipe from the Genroku Era, a golden age of the Edo Period when art, architecture and culture flourished.

During this time, sake was made very differently from today. Rice-polishing technology was limited, so the rice retained much of its outer layer. Genroku Redux is polished to just 88%, creating a rich, umami-driven profile. Japan’s isolation also made sugar scarce, so brewers crafted naturally sweet styles of sake to satisfy the palate of the day.

Brewed with half the water used in modern methods, fermented in wooden barrels with wild yeast and natural lactic acid, this sake is a rare glimpse into the past with a deep amber colour, luscious texture and a flavour that’s both ancient and surprisingly indulgent.

Expect bold, complex notes of nuts, dried fruit, fig, brown sugar, liquorice and soy. Sweet yet balanced, packed with savoury umami.

Enjoy it neat, gently warmed or over ice, and pair with game, pâté, rich BBQ flavours, chocolate, nuts or mature cheeses.

Please note: unless stated otherwise, the dates printed on the bottles are production dates, NOT best before dates.
