The Tosei Tochiri Kyusu Japanese Teapot, crafted by Isobe Shoten in Japan, is a stunning example of traditional Japanese teaware that combines aesthetics, functionality and craftsmanship.

The small size of the teapot is for the brewing of one or two smaller cups of tea at a time to empty the teapot. More hot water can then be added to the same leaves allowing you to enjoy perfectly-brewed, fresh tea each time.

Kyusu Teapot

The Kyusu is a traditional Japanese teapot known for its side handle. This design makes it easy to pour with one hand, which is ideal for the delicate process of brewing and serving Japanese green teas.

Tosei is the style created by the designer of the same name, who's work combines beautiful form with functionality, whilst Tochiri refers to the unique pattern and sleek matt black finish.

Japan, known for its dedication to traditional methods and high-quality ceramic craftsmanship. Each teapot is handcrafted, reflecting meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to quality.

The artisans at Isobe Shoten pay great attention to form and function, making sure the teapot not only looks beautiful but also performs exceptionally well.

The teapot is made from fine quality ceramic, fired at a high temperature to achieve durability and strength, which also provides great heat retention properties and the ability to enhance the flavour of tea. The black glaze provides a protective layer and beautiful finish.

The Kyusu is designed primarily for brewing Japanese green teas like Sencha, Gyokuro, and Genmaicha. Its shape and size allow for the proper steeping of leaves, to impart the most flavour.

This teapot has a beautiful built-in strainer at the spout, which prevents loose leaves from escaping into the cup.

Caring for your teapot

It’s recommended to hand wash the teapot with warm water and avoid using detergents to preserve the clay’s natural properties.

Over time, the teapot will develop a patina that enhances the flavour of the tea, adding to the teapot’s charm and functionality.
