Hardy to –12°C and grafted onto Volkameriana rootstock, a vigorous and robust rootstock prized for its strength and adaptability, which tolerates a wide range of soils, including those that are slightly alkaline, making it well-suited to UK garden conditions. Each tree stands approximately 60-80 cm tall (including pot) and was grafted over two years ago.

Easy to care for, Meyer lemon trees thrive in bright, sunny conservatories, greenhouses or well-lit rooms and can also be grown outdoors during the warmer months once established. Container grown trees can spend spring and summer outdoors but should be brought in over the harshest months of winter.

Planting directly into the ground is possible in mild, southern regions or coastal microclimates, provided the site is well-drained, south-facing and protected from strong winds. Extra insulation around the base of the tree and a fleece cover during cold snaps, will help it survive harsher winters.

Citrus trees grow best in slightly acidic to neutral soils (pH 6.0–7.0). Too alkaline or chalky conditions can cause the tree to experience nutrient deficiencies.

When grown in the right conditions, the tree will produce fragrant white blossoms throughout the spring and summer. The fruits ripen gradually throughout the year, with the main harvest from November to December. Meyer Lemons are smaller and rounder than typical lemons, with thin, smooth skin and a sweet-tart flavour that blends lemon and mandarin, giving a flavour that is deliciously aromatic and less acidic than regular lemons. The peel is edible and perfect for cooking, candied peel, drinks and desserts.

This tree makes a wonderful gift for gardeners, chefs or citrus enthusiasts, and with a little care, it will reward you year after year with colour, fragrance, and fresh homegrown lemons.
