Binchotan Charcoal
About our Binchotan
Binchō-tan (also called white charcoal or binchō-zumi) is a type of high-quality charcoal traditionally used in Japanese cooking. Binchotan produces minimal smoke - it's virtually smoke-free - and is even flame-free and odour-free. This means you can cook fresh foods without flavour contamination. Although slower to light than regular lump wood charcoal, it's worth the wait - and a chimney starter will help you reach a high heat from a single layer.
We stock authentic Japanese binchotan charcoal, as well as more affordable binchotan briquettes - and Japanese konro grills to use it with.
