Frequently asked questions

Yes! Lots of our Wasabi Label products include unique ingredients that can be used in both traditional and fusion styles of Japanese cuisine. For example, our signature mayonnaise and mustards are fantastic in a range of recipes – like our Yuzu mayonnaise in Togarashi Tofu Wasabi Tacos – or in a selection of our summer and spring salads.

We also stock Wasabi label vinegars, soy sauces, and sesame oil, which are staples in many different recipes. For example, rice vinegars are great in salad dressings and other types of rice and noodle dishes – but most commonly, rice vinegar is used when making sushi rice. Soy sauce is also a very common ingredient, often accompanying sushi as well as grilled meat dishes such as our Miso-Marinated Grilled Salmon with Koji Soy Sauce. Soy sauce is also frequently incorporated in our ramen recipes to add a burst of umami flavour.

In addition to our savoury Wasabi Label products, our sweet products can also be used in a variety of recipes listed on our website – check out our recipes hub for inspiration. For example, our Yuzu marmalade can be used in a wide range of Japanese baking recipes, adding a refreshing citrusy kick to your desserts!

However, whilst our Wasabi Label products are often used as premium ingredients, don’t forget that some items can be the stars of the show all on their own! Teas and alcoholic drinks, including vodka, shisho gin, sansho spiced rum and yuzucello can all be enjoyed on their own if you prefer - or gifted to that special someone.

Although we’re known for being the first commercial producer of fresh wasabi in the UK, this certainly isn’t all we have to offer! We use wasabi to create innovative products such as our Wasabi Label mayonnaise and mustard, and we also sell other Japanese products like yuzu, myoga ginger, miso, Japanese seasonings, and much more.

Discover our full range of Japanese ingredients – we’re your one-stop shop for home-cooked Japanese cuisine.

The shelf life depends on your chosen Wasabi Label product. Sauces and seasonings can last a long time in your cupboard once opened, but some of our Wasabi Label products may need to be refrigerated after opening, such as our mayonnaise, mustards and marmalades. Always follow the instructions on the label or product page to keep your items fresh for as long as possible.

On each product page, you’ll find a full ingredient list with possible allergens highlighted, so you can make the best choice when selecting one of our Wasabi Label products.

For example, if you tap the ingredients dropdown on the Wasabi Mayonnaise page, you’ll see that the ingredients are ‘Rapeseed oil, pasteurised free range egg yolk (10%), fresh wasabi (5%), vinegar, fresh horseradish, oriental mustard powder, salt, sugar.’

Nutritional information including energy, fat, carbohydrates, and sugars is also displayed on each page.

Yes! Many of our Wasabi Label products are vegan and vegetarian, including our Wasabi Powder and Yuzu Marmalade. Vegan and/or vegetarian items will feature relevant icon(s) on their product page, or you can check the ingredients for further dietary and nutritional information.

If you want to sample any of our Wasabi Label products, our products come in a range of sizes, so you can always choose a smaller version of the product first. Plus, many of our gift sets include smaller sample versions of Wasabi Label products, so this is a great way to try them out before you make a larger order – especially if there are a few different products you want to try.

If you’re a potential stockist or restaurant/chef looking to sample our products, you can get a trade account with us, or shout out to us at hello@thewasabicompany.co.uk!

We take great care to ensure your order reaches you in perfect condition. If you are dissatisfied with any of our products we will be happy to offer a replacement item, refund or a discount for your next order.

The Wasabi Company started out as a watercress farm. We had been growing watercress on our farms since the 1850s, but it wasn't until a chef visited us in 2010 that we thought of switching things up. When he saw our farm, he remarked how the only other crop he had seen growing in similar conditions was wasabi in Japan. That’s how we started.

We began looking into how to grow wasabi in the UK. We were warned about how difficult it is – in fact, wasabi had never been successfully cultivated in Europe until we did it. Since then, we’ve been cultivating fresh wasabi, importing Japanese ingredients and creating our own products to bring something new to your home-cooked Japanese cuisine.
